On the 6th September 2003, Danny Major was on duty as a patrol constable in Leeds during the course of which it was necessary to arrest Sean Rimmington for being drunk and disorderly. While the arrest was being carried out, Danny was assaulted by Mr Rimmington and as a result later required hospital treatment. Mr Rimmington was further arrested for causing actual bodily harm and detained in a custody cell.

While Mr Rimmington was in the custody cells at Millgarth police station, he too was assaulted and later taken to hospital.

Danny Major was charged with three counts of assault and after two trials was acquitted of one charge but found guilty of the other two. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Although Danny qualified for release after 4 months and was, he is still serving a sentence. The only difference being that he is free to walk around while he is serving it. His case is currently being reviewed by the Criminal Case Review Commission.
