Frontline Documentary

Here is the link to the Frontline Documentary. It was aired in 2007, and much more evidence has been discovered since, but it helps highlight how many questions were already hanging over this case just 18 months after Luke was convicted.

You will notice a complete absence of reference to, or input by, Luke’s legal team at the time. Although the first contact with the Frontline team came directly from Luke’s solicitors, they later decided that the documentary was “not a good idea”. It was the Frontline team who got Tim Valentine, John Scott, Roy Ramm and all of the others to give their expert opinions, based on the facts of the case. All of this expert comment was available to the defence team whilst they were preparing the appeal – there are 9 months between the airing of the documentary in May 2007 and the beginning of the appeal on February 5th 2008.

Not one of these witnesses, nor indeed any of the findings from the documentary, were used in the appeal, which then failed on May 16th 2008.

I was thinking that too nugnug. If they had already told this expert what Luke was supposed to have done, that would have affected the outcome any way so anything he said can't really be taken as valid. […]

  • Re: Luke Mitchell - Wrongly Convicted of Murder May 16, 2013
I've recently been more and more interested in the ideas of Professor David Wilson (he does a series of programmes on Channel 5 called "Killers Behind Bars") in that he seems pretty convinced that when killers are caught (serial killers at least) they ... […]

It does worry me however that with the emergence of that "Lie to Me" T.V. programme (as with others like CSI etc.) that people will suddenly believe all the hype behind the method and not actually realise that it's not all that black and white. […]
